The 2017 Reverse Raffle upheld the tradition of an energetic atmosphere with everyone hopeful for a $2,000 payout at the end of the evening. The annual event was held at Copious Notes in the German Village on November 2nd. Again this year attendees had an extra chance to take home the party basket with over $500 worth of food, alcohol and accessories.
Attendees began the evening with cocktails, appetizers and bonding over how they would spend the grand prize. After entering, they clamored to get one of their 52 chances to win the party basket by purchasing a playing card for $20 with all proceeds benefitting the Community Assistance Foundation. Several attendees were anxious to get their favorite cards while other left the selection to chance.
After a couple of announcements from Emcee Mike Lange of ABLE 444-Roof, the Raffle began with quick activity. The first ball drawn for the “Grand Prize Loser” went to Schottenstein Property Group, however, in following the rules of “must be present to win,” when no one claimed the prize it was given to the second number off the board Radon Be Gone who won back their $125 ticket price. Then members excitedly followed along as numbers came off the board, some were just disappointed not to win, while others received a consolation door prize.
When only five numbers remained on the board: Community Properties of Ohio, Roto Rooter, Mid America Management Corporation and two from Homestead America. The group discussed the important decision of splitting the prize money evenly or continuing on. Unable to reach a unanimous decision, the group continued on. With the next draw Roto Rooter was eliminated from contention. The group reconvened and still could not reach a unanimous decision. Drawing the next number Community Properties of Ohio was removed from the tumbler and would not take home the prize money. Discussing one more time, the vote was still not unanimous. With the next draw Mid America Management Corporation was removed leaving the two Homestead America numbers left on the board. Talking among themselves they agreed to continue to create one grand prize winner. The number 68 was removed from the board leaving the winning Homestead America number 35 as the final $2,000 winning number. Penny Ritz and Amanda Heintzelman celebrated as they claimed their prize.
The CAA would like to thank everyone at this year’s Reverse Raffle for their donations by purchasing a ticket or sponsored the event to benefit such a great cause. Congratulations to all of this year’s lucky door prize winners.
All proceeds from the Raffle benefited the Community Assistance Foundation, which made donations to Patches of Light, Red Cross, COMPASS and CPO Scholar House.
We would like to thank all of the sponsors and everyone that bought a ticket.
