CAA Community Assistance Foundation Announces 2023 Recipients
The philanthropic arm of the Columbus Apartment Association, the CAA Community Assistance Foundation will donate to four charities in 2023. American Red Cross of Central & Southern Ohio Region, Families Flourish, Huckleberry House, and Patches of Light. Contributions were presented at the November 16th CAA General Membership Meeting.
The Community Assistance Foundation provides financial assistance and materials to charitable organizations in Central Ohio who have missions that support multifamily housing and its residents. The Community Assistance Foundation is funded by donations from CAA members that allow the Foundation to provide much needed assistance to many charities and individuals throughout the Central Ohio community.
American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian service organization dedicated to helping make families and communities safer at home and around the world. The Red Cross responds to more than 300 local disasters each year and mobilizes volunteers when needed nationwide. The Red Cross assists in educating more than 20,000 residents in how to prepare for disaster. The Red Cross is ever present during a time of displacement and need on multifamily properties.
Families Flourish:
Move to PROSPER is a three-year program that empowers low-wage families and their children to gain economic security. Move to PROSPER equips families with the tools they need to flourish, including career and financial coaching. Move to PROSPER’s partial rental support enables them to move to neighborhoods with quality housing, better schools and a safe environment for their children. Working together, Move to PROSPER families set and achieve their personal goals.
Huckleberry House:
One in seven children will run away before the age of 18. They run because they don’t know how to deal with family dynamics at home, or because they are experiencing an unsafe situation and feel there is no other escape. Once they
are on their own, many don’t have anywhere to go, or they don’t know where to get help. Since 1970, Huckleberry
House has been a safe place and a source of support for these young people. We know this community, and the
challenges they face, perhaps better than any other organization. And we work relentlessly to ensure all young people in our community have access to a safe home environment as well as the guidance they need to develop skills and find resources that can help them navigate and cope with the pressures of life.
Patches of Light:
Each year thousands of children are diagnosed with life-threatening, life-changing, and often-times fatal illnesses. Many families with critically and terminally ill children are being inundated with the high costs of dealing with these illnesses. Many of the families referred to Patches of Light have one or more parent on an unpaid leave and they find they are unable to pay for even the basic necessities of everyday life. The mission of Patches of Light is to assist families with critically and terminally ill children so they can remain together during their hospitalizations and treatments. Funding is used to pay for past due mortgages, rent and utilities. Patches of Light provides phone, gas and grocery cards and parking vouchers. In addition, Patches of Light assists with emergencies such as auto repairs, housing for long distance care, airline tickets, Ronald McDonald House fees and much more.
