What are the main benefits of joining the Columbus Apartment Association (CAA)?

The CAA’s main focus is to serve the needs of the multifamily industry. By joining the CAA, you gain access to all CAA education courses and networking events. Additionally, the CAA works on your behalf with legislature on the local, state, and national levels.

​What is the cost to join the CAA?

Membership dues are paid on an annual basis and vary depending on your membership type. Contact CAA’s Membership Director for more information.

What education courses are open to nonmembers?

Each year, the CAA hosts a wide variety of courses, such as Apartments 101, Leadership, Resident Retention, Fair Housing, and several maintenance courses. Of these courses, only the ones that offer continuing education credit are open to nonmembers.

Does the CAA sell standard forms (i.e. leases, applications, lead disclosures, etc.)?

Yes, we sell printed forms for a small fee or you can download forms off our website for free and print them at your office. Both are available to members only.

Does the CAA mediate disputes between apartment owners and residents?

The CAA is a nonprofit trade association that serves the interests of the multifamily housing industry. The association does not mediate landlord-resident disputes.

If I join the CAA, do I become a member of the National Apartment Association (NAA) and the Ohio Apartment Association (OAA)?

Yes, by joining the CAA, you become a member of the NAA and the OAA. Both of these associations work on legislative issues on your behalf. There are opportunities to get involved in NAA events.  The OAA is a collection of leaders of the local associations and  provides no events.

What is the NAA?

The National Apartment Association (NAA) is America’s leading advocate for quality rental housing. It is a federation of 164 state and local affiliates, comprised of more than 30,000 multifamily housing companies representing more than 5 million apartment homes throughout the United States and Canada. Members in good standing of any affiliated association are automatically considered members of NAA and entitled to NAA benefits. As part of these benefits, you will receive a monthly subscription to the national industry publication, Units magazine.  The CAA has joined forces with NAA and the National Multi-housing Council (NMHC) to work on your behalf with Congress and other representatives on a national level.

What is the OAA?

The Ohio Apartment Association (OAA) is a statewide federation of local apartment associations; the OAA’s main function is to provide legislative advocacy at the state level.  The OAA retains Calfee, Halter, Griswold as their legislative lobbyist.

When is the CAA Membership Directory published?

The CAA Membership Directory goes out each March and updates are sent on a quarterly basis. Updates include new members and information changes to be added to the original Directory. All Membership Dues must be paid by January 31st in order to be included in the Membership Directory.

When is the annual trade show and how can I purchase a booth?

The CAA hosts the Central Ohio Multifamily Exposition each spring. Expo booths typically go on sale in October and are available to CAA members only. For additional Expo information, contact CAA’s Event Coordinator.

What is the CAA Community Assistance Foundation?

In order to increase our philanthropic activities and to more closely link our members to CAA charitable activity, the CAA created the Columbus Apartment Association Community Assistance Foundation, a 501(c3) corporation.
Pat Igoe, the 1999 President of CAA, was instrumental in forming the Foundation and took a leadership role in fund raising and program development.  The Foundation wanted to not only make financial contributions but also select activities that could actively involve CAA members. In the past, the Foundation has supported the Mid-Ohio Food Bank; Material Assistance Providers, Inc.; Patches of Light and the Ronald McDonald House Capital Campaign.

What is the CAA PAC?

The CAA Political Action Committee (PAC) is a separate, segregated fund that enables employees or members of groups—such as corporations and professional organizations—to pool their political contributions and support candidates who will help the organization achieve its legislative objectives.

The purpose of the CAA PAC is to provide greater awareness of critical issues affecting the apartment industry; increase member involvement in the association’s government relations efforts; increase member interaction with lawmakers to establish relationships in support of state and local legislative and political activity and to interest members in good government and its relationship to politics, election of candidates and legislative issues.CAA PAC is not affiliated with any political party.
