On January 15, 2015 two members were inducted into the CAA Hall of Fame. They joined the ranks of others who had been inducted before them. The CAA Hall of Fame was created in 1994 to recognize individuals who made outstanding contributions to the multifamily housing.
Randy Palmer, President of Colonial American Development
Randy is a CPA and began his career with Colonial American Development Corporation in 1980 as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer. In 1988 he was promoted to his current position as President. In addition to his service to the CAA as President, Palmer has served on the OAA Board of Trustees and has been an active member in the Midwest Affordable Housing Management Association since its inception. It was during Randy’s Presidency that the CAA signed management agreements with the OAA and amended the MAHMA agreement and helped MAHMA return to a solvent organization. Palmer lists the ability to develop a valuable network of industry professionals who are always willing to share their knowledge from years of experience as one of the most rewarding aspects of his time in the multifamily industry. He always enjoys the ability to reciprocate and provide insight when he can.
Michael Miller, President of Michaels & Kohl, Inc. Miller began his career with Michaels and Kohl in 1994 as Co-Owner and President and has been an instrumental leader in the CAA ever since. During his Presidency the CAA created an Ad Hoc Committee to develop financial audits and internal control policies and the development of the Group Purchasing Criteria. A point of pride for Miller is that he has been involved with most of the properties in his portfolio for over 40 years and during that time managed to successfully work with and guide literally hundreds of non-profit Board Members, most without any management or business experience, on a successful journey during which time the properties have remained financially sound, well maintained and don’t look their age. In fact, at one property there is even a street named after him. Miller has served the CAA as a member of the Ohio Apartment Association Board of Trustees. In addition, he has been a very active member of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). He was been a member of the Columbus IREM Executive Council and was awarded Columbus IREM CPM of the year in 1998. He is a former member of five National IREM Committees and was the 1992 Chairman of the Columbus IREM Community Service Committee that worked diligently to create the walk-in family shelter on Long Street.
